In order to survive a money crisis, Step One is to change
your old expectations. Make new expectations:
-
I, alone, am responsible for taking care of my children and
myself!
-
This is my reality and it is a permanent condition!
-
I am capable of learning how to take care of my children and
myself!
-
My life will never be the same, but it can be better than it
has ever been!
-
Once I learn how to take financial responsibility for my
children and myself, I may find an intimate partner who shares my values, and
with whom I can share my life!
Do you know someone who has survived a money crisis and
changed their lives for the better? If so, why not ask them about their old
and their new expectations? When did they realize they would have to change
their expectation? How did that realization change their outlook and behavior?
Write a new expectation for yourself. Put it on a note card
and read it out loud. Read it every morning when you wake up and every night
before you go to bed. Even if you are still in the middle of a crisis, you can
start your journey toward taking care of your children and yourself by
repeating this new reality over and over, until you begin to believe it!
When you have acknowledged your new reality, you should be ready for
Step Two.
